Proudfoot v. Smith & Nephew, Inc. (U.S. District Court—filed July 5, 2017) Product liability lawsuit related to a defective metal-on-metal hip implant. The plaintiff is a middle-aged former police officer who was forced to undergo several revision surgeries due to the failure of hip implants marketed and sold by the defendant, Smith & Nephew, Inc., including the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) system. The plaintiff also suffered from metal poisoning instigated by a build-up of debris in the soft tissue of his body due to the defendant’s defective products.
