A defendant’s negligence can have devastating consequences for both the immediate (direct) victim and the victim’s dependent children. On March 4, 2021, 32-year-old Alexandra DeMaio was travelling northbound on Campbell Avenue in West Haven as she approached an intersection. Suddenly, another vehicle operated by defendant Kristine Roy entered the intersection and violently collided into the passenger side of DeMaio’s vehicle. The force of impact pushed DeMaio into the oncoming lane of travel and, ultimately, the base of a large tree. The intensity of impact brought part of the tree crashing down onto DeMaio’s car. Her vehicle was destroyed. DeMaio, a single mother to three young children, suffered extensive physical injuries, including seven broken ribs, a broken pelvis in two places, a shattered right hip socket and hip dislocation, many soft tissue injuries and permanent scarring. As a direct result of the defendant’s negligence—most egregious, failing to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign controlled intersection—DeMaio will have permanent and lasting effects to her body and overall health—including her ability to walk, run and move about, all of which undoubtedly will impact her ability to work and earn money in support of her young family. DeMaio’s children, ages 2, 6 and 8, have suffered significantly as well from the loss of their mother’s ability to physically provide comfort, care, and support. Faxon Law Group is demanding compensation not only for DeMaio’s catastrophic harms and losses, but also for the related harms and losses suffered by her minor children.
