The plaintiff, then 56, underwent surgical repair for aortic and iliac aneurysms under the medical care of Dr. Hsu at Stamford Hospital. While on the operating table, he erroneously clamped the right common iliac vein, causing injury to the vein and leading to further tearing and massive bleeding. Further tearing necessitated two other surgeons to join the procedure to prevent the plaintiff from bleeding out. By then, the only option was to sew off the veins, causing extreme swelling of the lower extremities. In total, the plaintiff lost 22 liters of blood and has paralysis in both legs. Ultimately, he spent 48 days hospitalized before being transferred to a nursing facility with a tube inserted in his right kidney. It was determined that, if Dr. Hsu had protected the vein before clamp placement, the plaintiff’s life-altering injuries would have been completely avoided. The plaintiff will need medical care and supports throughout his lifetime because of the surgeon’s improper actions.

How to Use Case Builder

Case Builder contains two helpful categories: cases we are working on now and our past results. Case Builder is a novel concept. Our web designer said we should have this information fixed in a web page. We disagreed—thinking that just like our practice is always changing the case builder should be an ever-changing description of where we are right now—not last month or a year ago.
